Cliodhna Donnellan

As a creative, I am always evolving. I find my constant in the mystical landscapes of East Clare. Here, inspiration, challenge, and comfort coexist, reminding me of the spiritual rhythm of life and the music that can emerge from stillness.

Based in Mountshannon on the shores of Lough Derg, I am an Irish traditional musician, composer, and producer. My work has been shaped by over twenty years in music, community, and creative expression, and supported by advanced studies in Community Music and Irish Traditional Music.

Composition has become a central part of my creative process, with work appearing on a debut album and two singles released since 2020.

Alongside my creative work, I am involved with organisations supporting music education, training, and the wellbeing of creative practitioners.

What I offer

In addition to private tuition, I offer relaxed community music sessions for adults to learn at their own pace and enjoy making music together.

My music

I am drawn to the liminal space in music – the breath between two notes, the moment where the past fades and the future has not yet begun.

What people say about me

  • Cli is a rare talent – someone who combines exceptional musicality with a genuine gift for inspiring and nurturing other musicians. For the past three years, she has led a weekly session on behalf of the Sixmilebridge Folk Club, consistently drawing 20+ musicians of all ages, instruments, and stages of musical development. Her repertoire is truly remarkable, and she shares each tune with infectious enthusiasm and a deep love of the tradition. Under her guidance, what began as a group of musicians eager to learn has grown into a vibrant musical community that has already delivered several impressive public performances. Cli’s repertoire masterclass at Ennis Trad Fest confirmed what many of us already knew: this is the kind of workshop every festival should offer. Her ability to facilitate learning in a group setting is unmatched – and she does it all with warmth, generosity, and a trademark smile.

  • Clíodhna's Summer Trad Music Retreat is a lovely weekend of gorgeous music, tune learning, sessions, and community! Cli has created something very special... a retreat where we all feel very welcome, are musically challenged, yet still feel refreshed at the end because of the kind people, relaxed atmosphere, and beautiful location overlooking Lough Derg. Cli is one of the most skilled session leaders and teachers I know, a result of her extensive training and research into the musical performance experience, as well as her warm, bright personality. What a treat to be able to spend a weekend with her in this fantastic location!

  • Clíodhna is a musician who radiates energy, enthusiasm and unwavering commitment in everything she does. Her passion is contagious, filling every session with purpose and joy. She creates a space where you feel comfortable to experiment, make mistakes and grow without fear. That sense of safety has shaped my musical journey in untold ways. Through constant encouragement, honest feedback, and genuine belief in my potential, Cli has strengthened my confidence and expanded my ability as a musician. Because of her guidance, I play with more courage, clarity and trust in myself

  • In a time where we have witnessed so much post production in the studio, it’s refreshing to hear an album that pares this to the core... An album full of little gems along the way, this comes highly recommended.
